Abstract

The New Jersey City University Teacher Intern Program provides paid working experiences for pre-service teachers in the College of Education. Students pursuing a degree in education are placed in area partner schools to work alongside experienced teachers as early as their freshman year. This paper will highlight the program, its structure, roles (as interns, lead interns, cooperating teachers), professional development series, its focus on teacher leadership, and participating member feedback. Research will focus on the impact of experiential learning, the importance of professional development, and teacher leadership (through the lens of the lead intern role).
