Abstract
The paper describes the experiences of using genAI in one doctoral-level research course. Faculty and students explored the possibilities genAI affords when designing research studies, polishing research questions, and developing and pilot-testing qualitative instruments. Artifacts analyzed after the conclusion of the course indicated that students used genAI as a thought partner and relied on it to provide feedback. Students were able to understand the shortcomings of the tool although they did embrace its use where it was reasonable. Students found the activities motivating and reported that activities deepened their understanding of the course content.
