Abstract
A look at the state of government corruption in the country of South Africa in the years post-Apartheid, through the lens of a Principal-Agent model. The original model for corruption presented by Nico Groenendijk of the University of Twente, The Netherlands, is adapted to better represent South Africa's current economic and political climate. There are three principals presented, representing three racial and socio-economic classes that make up the electorate, and one agent that represents the dominant political party - the African National Congress (ANC). Groenendijk's general model is summarized, then adapted, and then a more specific look into the South African economy and the reasons behind the current state through the lens of that model is taken.
