Abstract
Previous research has demonstrated that weight stigma is associated with negative health outcomes among women who are overweight; this effect has been shown in both experimental and longitudinal studies. However, normal weight women do not tend to experience negative health impacts from exposure to weight stigma. This study attempted to manipulate the self-relevance of weight stigma among 150 normal weight women, in order to test whether self-relevance of stigma has an impact on health cognitions. Limited support for this framework was found.
