Abstract

Experimentally measured K and L spectra of copper and nickel in copper-nickel alloys, L spectra of silver and palladium in silver-palladium alloys and the L spectra of gold and platinum in one platinum-gold alloy are presented. The spectra are discussed with regard to modern band calculations and their predictions about the unoccupied density of states above the Fermi Level. The sharp contrast between the palladium and nickel L spectra as the noble metal concentration increases is also discussed. The nickel L spectra are discussed in terms of the Ferromagnetic behavior of copper-nickel alloys. Also reported is the lack of any absorption coefficient discontinuities for the M(,III) edges of pure gold and platinum. ^
