Abstract
The Modified Checklist for Autism in Toddlers (M-CHAT) and the M-CHAT Follow-Up Interview were used to screen 18,989 children aged 16-30 months at pediatric well child visits; screen positive cases were diagnostically evaluated. Follow up screening was completed with 3,053 children aged 42-54 months. Time 1 Positive Predictive Value (PPV) was 0.06 for the initial screening and 0.54 for the screening and the M-CHAT Follow Up Interview; Time 2 PPV for screening and the M-CHAT Follow Up Interview was 0.57. The upper bound estimate of sensitivity of the M-CHAT was .71. Results suggest that the M-CHAT is effective at identifying ASD in a low risk sample. ^
