Abstract
We prove a formula for the average value of L-functions associated to a set of quadratic function fields ramified at one finite place and ∞. We will review the history of this problem, including the connection to class number averages, present the numerical motivation for the formula, and prove the main theorem using the geometric interpretation of function fields. ^
