Abstract
The transition from middle school to high school can create fear and anxiety for many students. Ninth grade students have lower grades than any other students and many drop out after the tenth grade. The purpose of this study was to examine and compare the opinions of middle and high school teachers with the hope of providing data to school districts which will enable them to provide a better transition from middle school to high school. Data were gathered from middle and high school teachers in nine Connecticut school districts. Middle school teachers in this study reported that students were ready to enter high school while high school teachers reported that they were not ready. There was no difference between middle and high school teachers' academic expectations of their students. Communication between middle and high school teachers needs to take place to enable them to build a bridge between the middle school and high school philosophies. ^
