Abstract
People who are convinced of the need to eradicate un-free labor not just in the global south, but in the industrially advanced countries of the world, will be excited to learn that, with The Slave Next Door: Human Trafficking and Slavery in America Today, Kevin Bales (the world's leading scholar-activist of contemporary slavery) and Ron Soodalter (historian and author of Hanging Captain Gordon: The Life and Trial of an American Slave Trader) have produced an entire volume dedicated to uncovering the wrong of slavery in the US today and prescribing remedies against it. Both the turn towards scrutinizing the US, and the insights provided by Bales and Soodalter into the political and economic underpinnings of bondage in this country today are welcome.
