Abstract
I am very pleased indeed to have been invited to provide the opening address for this conference on "Comparative Legal Theory: A Meeting of East and West." The topics to be discussed in the course of the next few days cover a wide range of important issues, and I am particularly happy that the co-ordinators of the Conference have been able to bring to Hong Kong as contributors such an impressive array of distinguished and internationally well-known jurists and scholars.
