Stravinsky's music was introduced into the United States in a variety of ways throughout the 1910s: in newspapers, through early concert performances of both absolute and program music, and through performances of his ballets by the Ballet Russes and by American ensembles. This study examines the different ways in which Stravinsky's music became known to the American public between 1910 and 1917 and includes information about early performances of his music in New York and Boston, including a production of Petrushka by the Neighborhood Players of New York in April 1916, and a parody of Rite of Spring penned by Victor Herbert for the Vaudeville Production A Century Girl in November 1916.
