This study presents the theory and application of nondestructive damage detection of structures, and finite element analysis models for cracked plane beams which are applicable to structural analysis and damage simulation. ^ This dissertation covers structural integrity monitoring of a full-scale two-span continuous bridge, study of diagnostic parameters and their sensitivity to damage, development of the finite element models for cracked plane beams, and damage detection of cracked beams using simulated damage data through finite element models and using dynamic properties and their derivatives. The study presents a state of the art research directed to understanding the diagnostic parameters which are currently most commonly used in structural damage detection, and to apply these parameters to practical engineering practice. ^
